Centers & Institutes
Centers and institutes serve to catalyze highly competent faculty, staff and students and offer constituents a critical mass of talent that surpasses the capabilities of individual organizations. Supported by a strong academic system, these partnerships create new and diverse opportunities that expand the knowledge, economic condition and quality of life in North Carolina and the nation.
The North Carolina Solar Center, for example, has served as a clearinghouse for solar and other renewable energy programs for nearly 30 years. Another example, the Institute for Emerging Issues (IEI), is a think-and-do tank that convenes leaders from business, government and higher education to tackle the biggest issues facing North Carolina. The IEI annually holds the well-known Emerging Issues Forum.
The Nanotechnology Initiative, North Carolina Sea Grant, the Nonwovens Institute, the State Climate Office of North Carolina, the Furniture Manufacturing and Management Center and the Ergonomics Center of North Carolina are just a few more of the many centers and institutes led by NC State University.
